The residence of David and friends.
David [off-panel]: DAMMIT!!!!

Bob: Um... what's wrong?

David: GYAAAAH!!!!
Bob: Um...

Bob: Ok.
Grace: Huh.

Bob: Does this concern you?
'Cuz I kinda forgot to buy him one, too...
Bob: And how long have you two been dating?

[David boots over to the stores]

David: What to get...

David: No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

David: Gyaaaaah...
This is beginning to big time blow...

Grace: Crap.
I ain't findin' anything.

Grace: sigh
I guess at this point I'll just get whatever looks interesting and just fucking go with it.

[David and Grace unknowingly collide]

David: Holy crap! Jeez, I'm so sorry, Grace!
Grace: 'S ok. I probably shoulda expected that.

David and Grace: oooooooh...
This is just fucking great.

Grace: So... w-what are you doing here?
David: Ya know... the ol' homestead has been a wee bit hectic what with all the Christmas Eve junk goin' on...

Grace: Wow what a surprise. That's exactly why I'm here.
David: We really *do* think alike don't we?
Welp, see ya back at home!
Grace: Uh... yeah, you, too!

David and Grace: ...doesn't even suspect a thing!

Grace: gasp
Yes yes yes this is perfect!!!!!

David: Fuck it. It's almost closing time and I still haven't found anything *truly* special.
Why do I keep doing this to myself?

Bob: Welp, there's only two gifts left: Grace to David and David to Grace!

Sarah: Ooooooooh... I can't wait to see what's in store for this year!
Grace: Open mine first, David!
David: Um... OK...

David: It's... it's that huge ass Star Wars art book I asked for. Thanks, Grace!

Grace: Heh, I know you'd like it!
Now to open my own!
Grace: It's a...
David I lo...

Grace: Wh-what's wrong?

David: It's a bullshit gift.
I *know* that it's a bullshit gift.

David: I wanted to get you something meaningful. I mean, we've been together for 6 years.
But all I found was the same old crap.
There's nothing unique or special about a pendant.
It's literally just all I could find.

Grace: ...David, I love it.
I don't care what the circumstances were.
All that matters is that it came from the heart.

David: I mean... yeah... if *you* like it, that's all I care about.
Grace: And that's the spirit of Christmas!

Grace: Now let's make this the best fucking Christmas EVER!
David: Hell yeah, baby!

Author Notes

1/26/2022, 11:56 AM Ok so I got a couple things to say about this one so bear with me here.

1. This is the only strip that I've done that's like this. In hindsight, I really don't like the format, and I kinda regret doing the whole "multi-page strip as one big long page" thing with this strip.

2. Remember how I said that constancy with Grace was coming? Here it is.

3. This strip features the first appearance of another recurring corporate entity, Norton Northington's. Every time I re-read strips that feature the Norton Northington's exterior (and some interior shots, too), I'm always taken aback by how dark and utterly profane I make the store's signage. It's actually one of my favorite running gags in the strip.

2/16/2022, 10:09 AM The store signs are one of my favorite things about your comics pages so far as well! They never fail to make me laugh.

D'aaw, this was so wholesome and sweet. I love how they both went to the same store, ran into each other, both lied about why they were there, and both accepted each other's lies.

Really liked this Christmas special!
3/28/2022, 1:41 PM deals, bitch
3/28/2022, 1:47 PM deals
3/31/2022, 7:44 AM They're perfect for each other!
3/31/2022, 9:53 AM They are, aren't they?
4/28/2022, 3:22 AM I really like how much effort you put into backgrounds, even though they are not important to the story. All those little jokes and details, it fits so well into your comic!
4/28/2022, 12:10 PM Aw, thanks! I really haven't been doing those sorts of background gags that often lately, and like, I probably should, problem is, they're a pain in the ass to work with if I'm focusing on one part of the background from multiple zoom/pan levels. Ah well.
7/22/2022, 11:01 PM Hi! I finally got around to reading it and tbh Sarah is right! It’s the thought that counts! I think this is very sweet! Looking forward to see what’s in store! :D
7/22/2022, 11:18 PM Glad to have ya on! And yeah, I think Grace is on to somethin' here!

And believe me, there's quite a bit in store.
7/23/2022, 12:14 AM Ooo! Can’t wait! :O
2/1/2023, 5:32 PM Awww, they are such a cute couple :)
2/1/2023, 5:46 PM Ahh yesss, glad to see that their relationship can be felt this early on!
2/2/2023, 2:30 PM Yep. It sort of reminds me of that old tale of the husband and wife who were struggling financially... The wife cut her hair to sell for a gift for her husband and the husband sold something important to get a gift for him... Needless to say, both the gifts they got didn't quite work since I think the husband got her something for her hair and she cut it all off... I forget how the story goes. But they cared about each other so much and had to get last minute Christmas gifts they went to great lengths. Sort of like your two! :)
